Functional Medicine Detoxification & BioTransformation Module, Denver, CO, 2014
Amy Petrarca travels to Denver, CO to attend the Insitute for Functional Medicine Advanced Practice Module on Detoxification and BioTransformation.
Wow! I absolutely LOVE Functional Medicine! I think I may be the new president of their fan club! Seriously though.... I love getting into the "nit and grit" of the details! The BioChemistry of Phase I and Phase II Detoxification! Our human bodies are so amazing! At any given time, we are so busy doing endless metabolic processes! Even when you are lying down sleeping, your liver is BUSY metabolizing numerous endogenous and exogenous substances (and toxins!) No matter what we eat or don't eat, for that matter -- the liver does its best to process Phase I and then Phase II -- hopefully the correct nutrients and enzymes will be present so that we can function as healthily and efficiently as possible.
I learned a lot about Autism, Chelation therapy, Mercury Amalgams, Oxidative Stress Markers, and impacting Glutathione -- just to name a few concepts. I also really enjoyed meeting the other IFM participants around me. I met an Emergency Attending physician (now in private practice) from Savannah, GA; and a Pharm-D from Calgary, and a statistician from the CDC! Such great company!
I was so inspired, that I am now working on developing my own acupuncture protocol to assist in the detoxification of heavy metals and patients wanting to maximize their results with chelation therapy.
Also - I was able to stay with my dear friend, Julie! Denver was beautiful and amazing! We had delicious food every day, and there were home-cooked meals every night! It was a superb weekend!
Did you know that Beets are a superfood? I just baked some last night.
Did you know that two Hazelnuts per day can greatly benefit your health?
More tidbits like these coming in later blog posts. And will be more frequent in my Twitter feed. Read my tweets
