Functional Medicine Advanced Practice Module Immunology, Tampa, Florida 2013
Amy Petrarca travels to Tampa, Florida to attend the Institute for Functional Medicine Advanced Practice Module on Immunology.
What an amazing experience! It is difficult to explain the exhilaration I feel just being around other Health Care Providers who are as passionate about health, wellness, and prevention of disease as I am! And - to sit in the front row in an audience of several hundred physicians and clinicians from all over the world! Next to me, an MD from Atlanta, Georgia, and behind me, a surgeon from Italy! All of us here to study Immunology and the intricate balance of health in a stressed body.
I had the good fortune to stay with my Dad & his wife in Fort Myers for a few days before the conference - giving me time to reflect on the importance of spending life with loved ones and how precious this time is. I had even more hospitality shared with me when I ended up in Tampa to stay with my good friend, Corinne Wolfe, Acupuncture Physician and fellow Gold Standard Facial Acupuncture colleague from the Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minneapolis, MN. It is such a great experience when a business trip can include cozy dinners and time with loved ones and friends. The perfect balance after a long day studying cytokines, pathogens, and antibodies!
Speaking of cytokines, pathogens, and antibodies, I have never been so excited to study Immunology than I am right now. In fact, after spending three solid days listening intently to the articulate and compressed lectures of the presenters, I am convinced that I am quite actually on the cutting-edge of Immunology! The IFM faculty lecturers for this APM (Advanced Practice Module) on Immunology were:
- ROBERT ROUNTREE, MD received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill in 1980. He has augmented his training with extensive postgraduate studies in nutritional and herbal pharmacology along with certification as a master practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Dr. Rountree has provided his unique combination of traditional family medicine, nutrition, herbology, and mind-body therapy in Boulder, CO, since 1983. Seriously awestruck after three solid days of lectures from these three stellar educators/clinicians, I was fired up to bring this knowledge and insight back into my clinical setting, and assist my clients with more tools and interventions to help them on their path to optimal health & wellness.
